AFC Ajax’s Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana has emerged as a target for Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur.
According to Voetbal International, Onana is looking for a new challenge in his career and Spurs could be the perfect club for him to take his game up a level.
The 22-year-old Indomitable Lions player has been on Ajax’s books since January 2015 and has established himself as their first-choice shot-stopper.
Just this season, Onana has managed 13 clean sheets in 19 appearances across all competitions, and he is widely regarded as one of the best up-and-coming gloves-men in Europe.
His performances have helped the Amsterdam club to second place in the Eredivisie (behind leaders and champions PSV, who have won all of their league games thus far) and top of their UEFA Champions League group.
Tottenham are likely to be in the market for a new goalkeeper, with current incumbent Hugo Lloris struggling for form – despite having helped France win the 2018 World Cup just a few months ago.
Reserve ‘keeper Michel Vorm is considered only a backup option, leaving the door open for the London side to seek out a new number one.
Onana started his European career on the books of Barcelona’s youth teams. He caught the Spanish club’s eye while playing for the academy set up by former Barca forward Samuel Eto’o.
Speaking to Marca last year, Onana said: "The Eto'o Foundation helped me reach my dream, so I will always be grateful."
