Basketball & baseball

Charlotte Hornets General Manager Mitch Kupchak announced that the team has waived Jaylen Barford, 6-3 guard, and Isaiah Wilkins, 6-8 forward ahead of the 2018/19 NBA season; and Gio Gonzalez will start Friday's Game 1 of the NL Championship Series for the Brewers against the Dodgers and Wade Miley is slotted to start Game 2, while Jhoulys Chacin will start Game 3.

UFC & boxing

Milwaukee will be the site for one of the most anticipated rematches of 2018, as lightweight contenders Al Iaquinta and Kevin Lee collide at Fiserv Forum on Saturday, December 15; Dereck Chisora has branded himself as the 'Money Man' and is confident he can agree a heavyweight rematch with Dillian Whyte this week; and Demetrius Andrade will fight Walter Kautondokwa for the vacant WBO belt after Billy Joe Saunders relinquished the title.

Cycling, athletics & tennis

Lance Armstrong has joked that Geraint Thomas can have one of his Tour de France trophies after the Welsh rider had his stolen; Kenya’s Wesley Korir will be the star attraction at the 16th edition of the BLOM Bank Beirut Marathon on 11 November, an IAAF Silver Label Road Race; and British number one Kyle Edmund went through to the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters with victory over Chile's Nicolas Jarry 7-6 (7-5) 6-3.

Motorsport & golf

Tommy Fleetwood lifted his chances of retaining his Race to Dubai crown as he made a strong start to the Sky Sports British Masters at Walton Heath; Matt Wallace is determined to make a "proper statement" over the final five events of the European Tour season as he seeks to continue his rise up the world rankings; and Charlie Martin thinks the W Series is founded on segregation and "feels like a backwards step".
