Esperance de Tunis will look to end Primeiro de Agosto’s dream run in the 2018 CAF Champions League when the teams meet in the first leg of their semifinal tie on Tuesday, October 2.
The match is scheduled for Estadio 11 de Novembro in Luanda, kick-off at 18h00 CAT.
Agosto claimed their place in the final four thanks to a surprise triumph over DR Congo giants (and one of the tournament favourites) TP Mazembe in the quarterfinals.
The Angolan armed forces side appeared to have little chance of advancing after their home leg ended in a goalless stalemate, but they held the Ravens 1-1 in Lubumbashi to advance on the away goals rule. Lompala Bokamba scored their all-important strike at Stade TP Mazembe.
Esperance, meanwhile, overpowered their fellow Tunisians Etoile du Sahel 3-1 over two legs. The Blood and Gold won 2-1 at home thanks to strike from Chamseddine Dhaouadi and Sameh Derbali, and 1-0 away with a goal from Fousseny Coulibaly.
Agosto coach Zoran Manojlovic has called on his side to continue the fighting spirit they have shown throughout the Champions League this year, as they seek to make history and become the first ever Angolan team to reach the final of the continental competition.
His counterpart Khaled Ben Yahia will want Esperance to continue their aggressive approach and score at least one away goal to take back to Tunisia. They are looking to return to the final for the first time since three straight appearances in the championship matches from 2010 to 2012.
Senegalese referee Maguette N’Diaye will take charge of the match in Luanda, while the return leg is set for Stade Olympique de Rades on October 23 after the international break. The other semifinal, first leg also being played on Tuesday sees Egyptian giants Al Ahly host Algerian club ES Setif in Cairo.
