In an Eredivisie fixture that hasn’t happened for 16 years, Fortuna Sittard face Ajax, with the the visitors managing just a draw the last time they came to the Fortuna Sittard Stadion.

The Amsterdam-side do, however, hold an overwhelming record of: W43, D7, L12 in their 62 top-flight meetings with Sittard to date.

With six points from their first six games (W1, D3, L2), Sittard already look in slightly better stead than their last Eredivisie season (2001/02), where they registered four points during the same period. In fact Sittard’s current three Eredivisie games unbeaten is a record they were unable to achieve during the entirety of 2001/02.

Although still in second place after a humbling defeat at PSV, Ajax sit five points adrift and need a victory here more than ever. The visitors have a questionable recent record at Sittard though, winning just once in their last four trips (W1, D1, L2).

Defeat last time out ended Ajax’s 15-match unbeaten run in competitive games (W12, D3), a run which started and ended with a defeat to PSV. Don’t rely on the hosts getting anything here though, as Ajax have not lost two consecutive games since August 2017 (in all competitions).

Sittard have lost four of the last six H2Hs, conceding at least three goals in each of those defeats.

Sittard have conceded the first goal in five of their six Eredivisie fixtures this season.

Ajax have won to nil in four of their six Eredivisie games this season; they have beaten Sittard to nil in three of the last four H2H matches.

You can watch the match live on Fox Sports 2 from 8:35pm.
