Tommy Oosthuizen and Thabiso Mchunu will meet in the ring again as the headline bout of a Golden Gloves Boxing Promotions event at Emperors Palace near Kempton Park on December 8.
‘Tommy Gun’ and ‘The Rock’ faced off just a few weeks ago, with Oosthuizen claiming the vacant African Boxing Union cruiserweight title with a majority decision over his opponent.
Their closely-fought contest was scored 115-113, 115-13 and 114-114 – underlining just how little there was to choose between the two pugilists.

Oosthuizen (28-1-2, 16 KOs) had his first bout at cruiserweight and was a surprise winner, having been inactive for almost a year and a half.
The 30-year-old’s out-of-the-ring problems (which include substance and alcohol abuse, as well as time behind bars) are well documented, but his career appears to be on an upward trajectory.
Yet Mchunu (19-5-0, 12 KOs) could make a strong case that he was unlucky to be on the losing side, and there have even been reports that promoter Rodney Berman has made contact with the World Boxing Council, the mother body of the African Boxing Union, to provide neutral judges.
The southpaws’ second clash will see Oosthuizen looking to once again use his height and reach advantage, while Mchunu must try to land more blows from the ‘inside’ and use his undoubted power at close quarters.
