Club Brugge blow away hapless Gent, Genk target top spot

Club Brugge maintained their lead at the top of the Belgian Pro League standings with a huge win on match-day eight.

DR Congo-born centre forward Ilombe Mboyo netted for KV Kortrijk as they beat Zulte-Waregem 2-0 on Friday.

Waasland-Beveren were held to a 1-1 draw by Sporting Charleroi on Saturday, while KV Oostende edged out AS Eupen 2-1.

DR Congolese striker Jordan Botaka played the entire match as his side Sint-Truiden beat Antwerp 2-0.

On Sunday, Club Brugge remained their lead at the top of the log after thumping Gent 4-0 with Nigeria-born striker Arnaut Groeneveld scoring.

Anderlecht edged out Standard Liege 2-1, while Genk thumped Cercle Brugge 5-2.

Match-day nine will see Kortrijk taking on Eupen, who are winless in their last two games in the league, on Friday.

On Saturday, Club Brugge will lock horns with local rivals Cercle Brugge, while Genk will be looking to move to the top of the log when they face Zulte-Waregem.

Sint-Truiden are expected to face off with Anderlecht on Sunday and Standard Liege will look to bounce back against Oostende.
