Bout 3: WBA Pan African Super Middleweight Title fight (12 Rounds)
Boxers: Patrick ‘The Panther’ Mukala v Emmanuel ‘Kumasi Assassin’ Anim
Winner: Majority Draw (112-115, 114-113, 114-114)
Patrick ‘The Panther’ Mukala retained his WBA Pan African Super Middleweight title following a majority draw (112-115, 114-113, 114-114) against Emmanuel ‘Kumasi Assassin’ Anim at Meropa Casino & Entertainment World in Polokwane on Friday, September 21.
In fight characterised by poor officiating, Mukala can count himself rather fortunate to retain his title after an extremely controversial knock down in the final round, in a fight he should have won comfortably.
The Panther controlled the opening rounds with his stinging jab and impressive movement which saw him make his Ghanaian opponent miss.
Anim, though, did look dangers and packed a powerful punch which began to wear on Mukala at the start of the middle rounds.
This resulted in both fighters trying to fight on the inside and consequently holding each other when tagged which made a for a sloppy fight as the referee failed to take charge despite numerous warnings to both boxers for holding.
The middle rounds were extremely difficult to score, but Mukala began to find his rhythm again in the ninth as he started throwing combinations with his jab doing the most damage.
The Kumasi Assassin, however, was not going down without a fight and muscled his way back on the inside where he scored with some convincing body blows in round ten and 11.
Still, despite the onslaught from the Ghanaian, Mukala looked to be winning the fight on points – that was until the referee called a trip by the champion as a knockdown in the final 30 seconds of the fight.
It was obvious to all watching that Mukala clearly tripped over the feet of Anim, but somehow the referee missed it and started the count which cost The Panther the clear victory.
The result takes Mukala’s fight record to W11 L1 D1 while Anim’s record stands at W13 L1 D1.
