Bout 1: International Welterweight Contest (4 rounds)
Boxers: Tankiso ‘The Eagle’ Qelo v Kagiso Bagwasi
Winner: Kagiso Bagwasi (via TKO 1 minute, 28 seconds in round 2)

The first bout of Africa Boxing 9 saw Botswanan Kagiso Bagwasi beat South African Tankiso ‘The Eagle’ Qelo via a technical knockout one minute and 28 seconds into round 2 of their International Welterweight Contest at Meropa Casino & Entertainment World in Polokwane on Friday, September 21.

The boxer from Botswana dominated proceedings from the opening bell, controlling the centre of the ring and keeping his opponent on the back foot with his accurate jab.

In fact, Qelo really struggled to deal with the southpaw stance of Bagwasi who timed his straight with great effect which resulted in the South African tasting the canvas midway through the first round.

The Eagle, though, answered the count and managed to make it through the first round despite severe pressure from Bagwasi.

The second round was more of the same and once more a solid straight from the Botswanan fighter put Qelo on the canvas and the South African’s corner was quick to throw in the towel.

The win is Bagwasi’s first TKO of his career and sees him take his fight record to two wins while Qelo suffers the first loss of his professional career in his first fight.
