Nigeria have suffered a triple injury blow ahead of their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier away to the Seychelles in Victoria this weekend.
The Super Eagles will be without Arsenal attacker Alex Iwobi, Udinese centre-back William Troost-Ekong, and Torino right-back Ola Aina for the match. Tyronne Ebuehi and Shehu Abdullahi will also play no part in the clash in the Island nation due to injuiry.
Nigeria are desperate to bounce back to winning ways following a 2-0 defeat at home to Bafana Bafana last year. The Seychelles lost their Group E opener 5-1 to Libya in Cairo.
But, despite their opponents rather low pedigree, Head Coach Gernot Rohr has warned his troops not to underestimate their counterparts.
“For us to win, we must not look down on Seychelles because everybody thinks they are no team, but if we don’t raise our game we will be shocked.”
Rohr expects Kenneth Omeruo to fill the void left in defence with distinction as Nigeria eye a positive result in the Seychelles.
“It depends on how we handle the absence of the injured defenders,” Rohr added. “But I think Omeruo should lead in their absence. He has been with the team for a long time and I hope he should be able to cover up for the other injured players who will not be part of the game.”
