Abdenasser El Khayati has expressed his happiness at remaining with Eredivisie club ADO Den Haag.
The 29-year-old Dutch-Moroccan produced one of the best individual performances of the 2018/19 season this past weekend when he netted all four goals in ADO’s 4-2 away win over Excelsior.
El Khayati, who has also represented FC Den Bosch, NAC Breda, Olympiakos Nicosia, Kozakken Boys, Burton Albion and Queens Park Rangers in his club career, was linked with a move away from the Cars Jeans Stadium this European summer.
One of the teams which showed interest was Sheriff Tiraspol from Moldova, and De Telegraaf reports that he could have earned a significantly higher salary compared to his package at the Eredivisie club. However, El Khayati says he ‘feels good’ at ADO, especially after his four-goal salvo.
"It is remarkable that this happens exactly after the transfer deadline, and I have had many things in mind over the past few months: many bells, agents who are mixing in. I cannot deny that this does something to you,” he told De Telegraaf.
"If I was really eager to get into something, I might have played somewhere else, but I feel good here, I'm happy, and at ADO they know what I can and can not do, which is easier to play football."
El Khayati will hope to continue his outstanding form when the Eredivisie season resumes on the weekend of September 15-16. His ADO will play host to champions PSV Eindhoven.
