Eswatini’s Mbabane Swallows crashed out of the CAF Champions League after losing 2-1 to Angola’s Primeiro de Agosto in their final Group D match at Estádio da Cidadela on Tuesday.
Swallows end their CAF Champions League campaign with only one win to their name and four points at the bottom of Group D.
The result, combined with Zesco United’s 1-1 draw against Etoile Sahel in the other Group D game on Tuesday, leaves Agosto in second place on the standings with nine points and a place in the knockout stages of the competition.
Etoile Sahel top Group D with 12 points while Zesco and Swallows are out of the competition.
Agosto controlled the flow of play from the onset, but struggled to find the right ball in the final third.
Nonetheless, the Angolan side pushed forward and were rewarded for their efforts just after the half hour mark when Bakulu Jacques found the back of the net with a clinical finish, 1-0.
Four minutes after taking the lead the home side was able to find their second goal courtesy of a strike from Geraldo as they took a 2-0 lead into the break.
Swallows tried to mount a come-back in the second half and even pulled a goal back on the hour mark when Quadri Aladeokun scored a goal with a deadly finish.
Agosto tightened up in defence after that a they ‘parked the bus’ which in the end proved successful as they picked up the win.
