Five-time former world champion Roy Jones Jnr will open a new boxing gym in Johannesburg, South Africa in collaboration with local female boxing trainer Jodi Solomon.
The new gym, which will be situated in Craighall, will open on September 1. It will focus on fitness training and assist both professional fighters and talented amateurs looking to make their mark in the sport.
Jones is a boxing legend, winning five world title across four weight divisions. He is also the only man to begin his career as a junior middleweight and then go on to win a heavyweight title.
Solomon, meanwhile, has been in the boxing business for over two decades and has trained and managed the likes of Isaac ‘Golden Boy’ Chilemba.
Jones joined her training team in 2016, and the opening of their new gym is an extension of their partnership together.
“I have been extremely privileged to have worked with Roy for so many years. He has assisted with my knowledge and understanding of the sport, in addition to my training ability,” Solomon explained.
Jones added: “Jodi is a force to be reckoned with, I am thrilled to announce our partnership. We hope to inspire all who love boxing and unearth new talent in South Africa."
