Mbabane Swallows and Zesco United will meet for a must-win 2018 CAF Champions League Group D clash at the Mavuso Sports Centre in Manzini on Saturday, August 18. Kick-off is at 15h00 CAT.
Swallows come into the game on the back of a 2-0 loss away to Etoile du Sahel late last month, as goals from Maher Hannachi and Slim Ben Belgacem took the Tunisians to victory in Sousse.
The result left the Swazi side in third place on the log with four points from as many matches. They trail leaders Etoile (who have already qualified for the quarterfinals) by six points, while second-place Primeiro de Agosto are just one point ahead.
Zesco’s last Champions League outing was a 2-1 loss away to Agosto on July 27. The Angolans claimed victory in Luanda thanks to last-gasp goals from Geraldo and Muselenge Ungenda, denying the Zambian side what looked set to be their first group win after a strike midway through the second half from John Ching’andu.
The result left United at the bottom of the pool with just two points and in desperate need of wins in their remaining matches to have any hope of reaching the knockout phase of the continental competition.
Swallows and Zesco met in the first round of Group D matches, way back in early May. They played to a 1-1 draw at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, with David Onwin’s opener cancelled out by a goal from Simanga Shongwe.
Burundian referee Thierry Nkurunziza will take charge of the match in Manzini. The other Group D match sees Etoile host Agosto in Sousse on Saturday night, kick-off at 21h00 CAT.
