Istanbul Başakşehir manager Abdullah Avci has explained why forward Emmanuel Adebayor missed their clash with Burnley FC.

The Turkish Super Lig side were held to a 0-0 draw by English Premier League outfit Burnley in the 2018/19 UEFA Europa League qualifier on Thursday night.

The third round qualifying encounter was played at the Faith Terim Stadium in Istanbul.

When asked about Togo captain Adebayor ahead of the clash with Burnley, Avci said (translated from Turkish): "Adebayor is very healthy and we have had a private meeting with him."

"It is only a little bit of a match and UEFA will not be with us tomorrow but we will continue our own special work. We will decide for you," he said on Goal Turkey.

Avci is looking to guide Başakşehir to the group stage of this season's Europa League.

"We have been playing very important milestones for the development of a club, we have met with the Dutch, Spanish, Belgian and Bulgarian teams and we have made significant progress in terms of game and recognition of the other country's footballs," Avci said.

"We will meet with an English team, we have watched and analyzed live, encountering different cultures, putting a lot of things in our pocket, and if a team has positive aspects, there are negative aspects."
