Eredivisie giants PSV Eindhoven and AFC Ajax have had their path to the UEFA Champions League group stage mapped out after the draw for the playoff round was made on Monday.
Hakim Ziyech’s Ajax were already paired with either Dynamo Kiev or Slavia Prague for the final round of the preliminaries, though they’ll have to get by Belgian First Division A side Standard Liege first.
Dutch champions PSV were drawn against the winner of Bate Borisov (Belarus) and Qarabag (Azerbaijan).
Qarabag entered the competition in the first qualifying round and have knocked out Ljubljana and Kükesi. Bate Borisov saw off HJK Helsinki in the last round.
The first leg of the playoff ties will take place on August 21-22, with the return legs set for the following week.
PSV and Ajax are set to open their 2018/19 Eredivisie campaigns this coming weekend. Defending champions PSV will face Utrecht on Saturday night (with the match set to be aired live on Fox Sports 1), while Ajax welcome Heracles earlier the same day.
In other Eredivisie news, Major Soccer League club Chicago Fire have terminated the contract of Rafael Ramos, freeing him up to sign for FC Twente.
The 23-year-old Portuguese defender has joined the club on a one-year contract, with an option for a further year in 2019/20.
