‘reach for the stars’ boxing tournament to help children with life-threatening illnesses

Female boxing promoter Shereen Hunter has put together a boxing tournament in South Africa which will raise funds for children with life-threatening ilnesses.

The upcoming tournament, which is dubbed ‘Reach for the Stars’, will be jointly organised by Jeff Ellis and Rodney Berman and take place at Emperors Palace on Friday, August 10.

The box-and-dine event will raise funds for the Reach for a Dream Foundation, which assists children who have been stricken by dread diseases.

Hunter said she approached Ellis about the idea of organising the tournament and he was quick to lend his assistance and experience.

"Jeff and Rodney went one step [further] by saying they will raise money for the foundation," Hunter in quoted by the Sowetan.

Ellis and Berman have often done under-the-radar work to help assist former boxers who have fallen on hard times, and this initiative adds to their charitable efforts.

The ‘Reach for the Stars’ event will be headlined by a bout between Renson ‘Bagdad’ Hobyani and Rowan Campbell. They will battle over 12 rounds for the vacant South African super middleweight title.

Hobyani has a record of 8-2-0 with two knockouts and his last fight was a victory over Christian Okeke in Johannesburg in June.

Campbell has a record of 7-0-0 with six knockouts and his last fight was a victory over Malkhaz Sujashvili at Emperors Palace in June.
