Africa Boxing 8
Bout 1: International Cruiserweight Contest (4 rounds)
Boxers: Lebo ‘Machine’ Mashitoa v Romeo ‘Bololo (Beater)’ Katampa
Winner: Lebo Mashitoa by Technical Knockout (One minute and 57 seconds in the third round)
The first bout of Africa Boxing 8 saw Lebo ‘Machine’ Mashitoa beat Romeo ‘Bololo (Beater)’ Katampa via a Technical Knockout one minute and 57 seconds into the third round of their International Cruiserweight Contest at Carnival City in Johannesburg on Friday night, July 20.
It certainly wasn’t the prettiest of fights with both boxers looking a little clumsy at times, but in the end it was the more refined technique of Mashitoa and his accurate punching that saw him win the bout.
The first round saw the South African finding the chin of Katampa with a straight hand rather easily. And while the DRC man looked the more physically imposing of the two fighters he simply had no skill level to back it up.
As the fight progressed Mashitoa starting landing punch after punch as Katampa ran out of steam. It was only a matter of time before the referee stopped the fight.
That stoppage came in the third round after a flurry of combinations from Mashitoa left the man from DRC punch drunk.
The win sees the South African remain unbeaten with a fight record of three wins while Katampa starts his professional career with a loss.
