Matchday 9 of the 2018 World Cup saw Brazil facing Costa Rica in their second Group E match as they chased the full three points.
Both nations were looking for a win as Costa Rica came to this match off the back of 1-0 defeat against Serbia whilst the Selecao drew against Switzerland on Sunday.
However, the 2014 hosts managed to brush Costa Rica aside after netting two goals from Liverpool attacker Philippe Coutinho and Paris St. Germain forward Neymar at the death.
Brazil collected their first win in the group whilst the Costa Ricans suffered their second after opening with a loss to Serbia.
Brazil now have four points after their opening draw against Switzerland and they remain in contention of making it to the next stage whilst Costa Rica are out of the race.
In the second game of the day, the Super Eagles of Nigeria met Iceland in Group D where they bounced back to bag a win.
A brace from Ahmed Musa saw the West Africans redeeming themselves with a 2-0 win as they now have three points.
Up next for them is a clash against Argentina who lost 3-0 to the Blazers of Croatia and for Iceland, they now have a point in the group as they opened with a draw against the Albiceleste.
Wrapping up the day was a meeting between Switzerland and Serbia from Group E. The Serbs were motivated after a win over Costa Rica and the Swiss held Argentina last weekend.
Serbia took an early goal courtesy of Aleksandar Mitrovic as they were looking to make their first qualification into the knockout stages, but failed to hold on the to their lead.
Upon the start of the second half, Granit Xhaka netted a brilliant left-footed piledriver to make it 1-1.
With the Serbians still shocked, Xherdan Shaqiri netted a winner in the 90th minute to register one of their best comebacks.
Switzerland moved to the second spot behind Brazil in the group with four points whilst Serbia sit third with three points.
