Former Leeds United defender Dominic Matteo has stated that “underrated” Adam Forshaw could be the key to club’s push for promotion from the EFL Championship in 2019/20.
The midfielder put in an excellent display in the Whites’ 3-1 away win over Bristol City on Sunday.
The 27-year-old started and finished the match as goals from Pablo Hernandez, Patrick Bamford and Jack Harrison secured a great start to the campaign for Marcelo Bielsa’s men.

The result saw Leeds go top of the table and underline hopes that they can go one step further this season, after narrowly missing out on promotion last term.
Forshaw only managed 32 appearances in 2018/19, but the £4.5million signing was crucial on Sunday.
Former Leeds star Matteo has told talkSPORT that Forshaw did not get the praise he deserved last season, and reckons that his three-man partnership in the middle of the park with Kalvin Phillips and Mateusz Klich could lay the foundation for success.

“It was a great performance, a lot of pressure on Leeds,” Matteo said. “They were unlucky last season. They didn’t see games out last term and it cost them.
“With players like Klich, Forshaw and Phillips in midfield, it allows Harrison, Bamford and Hernandez to have freedom. Forshaw is underrated. Forshaw didn’t get much praise last season and was in and out of the team, but he is underrated.
“If those three can get an understanding going, then they can be a real force.”
Leeds will next be in action on Saturday 10 August when they host Nottingham Forest at Elland Road. You can see live coverage of the Championship match from 13:25 CAT on Fox Sports 1.
