Chelsea winger Willian says Frank Lampard will be welcomed as the club’s new manager when his appointment is confirmed.
It seems only a matter of time until Lampard, currently in charge of EFL Championship club Derby County, is announced as the replacement for Maurizio Sarri, who recently left Chelsea for Juventus.
“He is a legend," Willian told Football London after Brazil's Copa America win over Paraguay. “He was an extraordinary player for the club, winning every possible title.
Wayne Rooney as manager?
“He deserves so much respect and backing for what he has already achieved at the club.
"If Chelsea do bring him in, he will be very welcome."
Willian admitted that he wasn't aware of the current managerial situation at Chelsea.
“Is he definitely going to be the next manager? I don't know," he added. “But I think he would be up to the task.
“He was a great player, and he is a great person.
"He's only starting his managerial career now, but he has everything it takes to be a success."
Lampard is a legend at Chelsea, racking up over 600 appearances in a 13-year spell at Stamford Bridge which saw him score a club-record 211 goals and win multiple honours, including three Premier League titles and the 2012 UEFA Champions League.
