Barcelona and Netherlands goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen says he has tried to convince national teammate Matthijs de Ligt to swap AFC Ajax for Barcelona.
The Spanish giants are one of several teams reportedly chasing the signature of the young Ajax centre-back, who is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in European football.
Ajax have the best talent
Barca have already secured the services of de Ligt’s Ajax buddy Frenkie de Jong, and Cillessen – who serves as the backup goalkeeper for the Blaugrana – has told the defender of the “good things” the Spanish club can offer.
The goalkeeper spoke to the media ahead of the Netherlands’ UEFA Nations League final against hosts Portugal, which will be played in Porto on Sunday night.
“I sat down with Matthijs de Ligt to talk about his future,” Cillessen is quoted by Mundo Deportivo.
“I can only tell him good things about Barca, because it’s a great club and I have great feelings with Barca.
“I told him the same as Frenkie. Matthijs is a good boy, he knows what he has to do.”
