PSV Eindhoven captain Luuk de Jong has admitted that his side’s Eredivisie title hopes have evaporated following their 1-0 loss away to AZ Alkmaar this past weekend.
The defeat for PSV, combined with a 4-1 win for Ajax, has left the defending champions three points adrift of their Amsterdam rivals heading into the final round of the season tomorrow evening.
Even if PSV win their final match at home to Heracles and Ajax lose at De Graafschap, there still needs to be a massive swing in goal difference: PSV’s goal difference is +70 but Ajax’s is +84.
“The title race is over”, admitted Eindhoven captain Luuk de Jong, as quoted by his club’s official website.

“They are going to clinch the Eredivisie title”, continued de Jong, who added that PSV have only themselves to blame..
“We were sloppy in possession [on Sunday]. The way we conceded the only goal of the match says it all.
“We created some chances even if we did not play to our best, but did not take them.”
Denzel Dumfries says there is no other option but to accept the defeat: “You get what you deserve at the end of the day.
“We have to accept we were not good enough to retain the Eredivisie title but we will carry on next season with our heads held high,” said the right-back.
