Norwich City manager Daniel Farke says he and the players will savour a “great moment” after defeating Aston Villa 2-1 yesterday to secure the EFL Championship title.

The Canaries were already guaranteed of promotion to the Premier League prior to their match at Villa Park, but they ensured that they also claimed the trophy ahead of Sheffield United with victory in Birmingham.

“It was probably too naïve or too romantic to think we could do it this way. It fits totally to our season,” said Farke after the match.

“To beat Villa, a side who were on fire and unbeaten for so many games, in a sell out before they go into the play-offs, is a fantastic feeling.

“To win at such an historic, brilliant stadium. It feels deserved after this season to finish with 94 points, 14 unbeaten, nearly a 100 goals. It is proud moment. The whole club, every player and each and every member of staff worked so hard.

“You have to savour these moments. If you are Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson or Bayern Munich then you have a chance for six or seven titles in your career. For normal players, perhaps, only allowed to do this two or three times.

“These moments don't come that often. It is a great moment. Myself and the players will never forget these moments.

“It is satisfying but not because there is a feeling we proved someone wrong. We have just created history. It is extraordinary. We broke so many rules. About needing experience or money or playing beautiful football. We showed spirit and mental strength with many young players.

“This consistency is remarkable. We have earned more money in transfer fees than any other club in this country and perhaps in western Europe.

“That is brilliant for our key people who made brave decisions.

“It is not a sensation Norwich now play in the Premier League, because we have done this in our history, but to do it in these circumstances is a sensation.”
