AFC Ajax star Hakim Ziyech is reportedly available for a bargain fee in the European summer and is sure to attract huge attention from the continent’s heavyweight clubs.
The Moroccan star, 26, has been a key driving force behind Ajax’s rise to the top of the Eredivisie table, as well as their stunning progression into the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League.
Ziyech has registered 19 goals and 20 assists from 42 appearances across all competitions this season, underlining his immense contribution to Erik ten Hag’s side.
Normally one would expect such a consistently excellent performer to transfer for top dollar. For example, Ajax teammate Frenkie de Jong’s deal to move to Barcelona at the end of the season included a transfer fee of an initial €75million. It is believed that defender Matthijs de Ligt could fetch a fee even higher if and when he leaves the Eredivisie club.
Yet, according to The Mirror, a clause in Ziyech’s contract at Ajax (which runs to June 2021) means he could be available for as little as €29million – a bargain fee considering the player’s outstanding season stats, versatility and relative youth.
For his part, Ziyech is open to the possibility of moving away from the Johan Cruyff Arena.
"Anything is possible," he told Inside Ajax. "I am always someone who is very picky and there must be a club that I want to trade in for Ajax. That doesn’t just happen."
You can see Ziyech and his Ajax teammates in Eredivisie action on Tuesday evening when they host Vitesse Arnhem, with live coverage on Fox Sports 2 from 20h35 CAT.
