PSV Eindhoven captain Luuk de Jong insists his team is still well in the fight for the Eredivisie title despite giving up the lead to rivals AFC Ajax this past weekend.
PSV were held to a 3-3 draw by Vitesse on Sunday, a result which (combined with Ajax’s 4-1 win away to Willem II) saw them drop to second spot on the log on goal difference.
The defending champions fought back from being a goal down three times, with de Jong’s strike for 2-2 sandwiched by a brace from Hirving Lozano.
“Anything can still happen. We will keep on fighting for the Eredivisie title down to the wire,” said de Jong after the match.
“We will show resilience and keep on fighting till the end. We look to maintain pressure on the league leaders.”
De Jong also praised Vitesse goalkeeper Remko Pasveer, who made several excellent saves to ensure his side picked up a point.
“Yet we had enough chances to wrap up the three points. Vitesse keeper Remco Pasveer put in a great display, pulling off a string of fine saves to keep his side in the game,” explained the PSV skipper.
“Having said that, we should never concede three goals. But we will just carry on. Anything can still happen.”
