Barcelona club president Josep Maria Bartomeu has hinted at the signing of sought-after AFC Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt.
The 19-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Spanish giants at the end of the current season, while fellow European heavyweights Bayern Munich and Juventus are also said to be interested.
Barca have already signed de Ligt’s Ajax teammate and friend Frenkie de Jong, who will be headed to the Camp Nou at the conclusion of the 2018/19 campaign.
The Spanish media is sure that the Blaugrana have won the race to sign de Ligt and club president Josep Maria Bartomeu has now stated he knows what will happen with the centre-back.
“He is a good player and good central defender. I know what will happen to him, but this is not the time to talk about it,” said Bartomeu.
“There will come a time to talk about him. Every year we investigate the possibility of attracting players and that will be no different this summer. De Ligt is, just like other players, an option.”
You can see de Ligt, de Jong and the rest of Ajax’s team in action later this evening. They are away to Willem II in a key Eredivisie match, with live coverage on Fox Sports 1 starting at 18h20 CAT.
