Liverpool have reportedly made AFC Ajax attacking midfielder Hakim Ziyech one of their major transfer targets.
The Reds have been keeping a close eye on Ajax’s emerging stars and the 25-year-old Moroccan is seen as a player with huge potential.
Ziyech certainly gave an impressive performance in Ajax’s 4-1 win over Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League last week, opening the scoring at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium to lay the foundation for a famous triumph by the Dutch giants.
Across all competitions, Ziyech has racked up an impressive 18 goals and 16 assists from 36 appearances.
The North African star predominantly plays on the right of midfield for the Eredivisie giants, but he can also play on the opposite flank or as a central playmaker.
Liverpool apparently view him as a player who could bring an x-factor and unpredictability to their game, much as Brazilain Philippe Coutinho did before he was sold to Barcelona.
Yet Ziyech will not come cheap – respected website Transfermarkt put his value at a conservative £31.50m, a figure which will surely rise as Ajax continue to impress on both the domestic and European fronts.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are also likely to face stiff competition for the player’s signature. Roma nearly managed to complete a deal at the end of last season, while German giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are also said to be keen on Ziyech.
You can catch the Moroccan star in action for Ajax when they face AZ Alkmaar in an Eredivisie clash on Sunday 17 March. Live coverage on Fox Sports 1 begins at 15h20 CAT.
