Spanish giants Barcelona are reportedly confident of signing AFC Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt at the end of the current season.
The La Liga champions have already secured a deal which will bring de Ligt’s teammate Frenkie de Jong to the Camp Nou, and they are now upping their pursuit of the 19-year-old centre-back.
De Ligt apparently has a wide choice of suitors from across Europe, but favours Barca - particularly with good friend De Jong set to play for the Blaugrana from next season.
A final decision is expected next month, though Barca are confident De Ligt will choose them should he decide to leave the Eredivisie giants.
Just last week, Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu stated: "We've followed him [de Ligt] for a while. I like him a lot but Barca has other players with excellent abilities. We will see what will happen from March and April.
"But we like to see him play. But there is nothing. We recruited (Jean-Clair) Todibo, who is young and from the French school. In one year, we can have a central defender with sporting guarantees."
You can see de Ligt and de Jong in action for Ajax when they continue their Eredivisie season with a match away to AZ Alkmaar at the AFAS Stadion on Sunday 17 March, kick-off at 15h30 CAT. The match will be live on Fox Sports.
