Visma-Jumbo rider Tadej Pogacar finished ahead of Søren Kragh Andersen of Sunweb to seal overall victory in the 2019 Volta ao Algarve on Sunday afternoon.

Danish cyclist Andersen scooped second place in both the overall and the stage, while Deceuninck-Quick-Step rider Zdenek Stybar won the fifth and final stage.

Pogacar, who is a 20-year-old Slovenian cyclist, is pleased to have won the competition after surviving dangerous attacks in Portugal.

"I panicked a bit, but I knew that [Simone] Petilli and [Valerio] Conti were still good, so it was pretty OK for us," Pogacar said.

1 Tadej Pogacar (Slo) UAE Team Emirates, in 19-26-34

2 Søren Kragh Andersen (Den) Team Sunweb, at 14s

3 Wout Poels (Ned) Team Sky, at 21s

Meanwhile, Astana rider Jakob Fuglsang won the 2019 Vuelta a Andalucia Ruta del Sol after finishing safely in the peloton on the final stage on Sunday afternoon.

Matteo Trentin of Mitchelton-Scott sprinted to victory in the fifth and final stage, while Euskadi Basque Country-Murias rider Enrique Sanz Unzue and Carlos Barbero (Movistar Team) finished second and third respectively.

Swiss-born Danish cyclist Fuglsang stated that they worked hard as a team in order to secure victory in Spain.

“I’m very happy. My teammates did a lot of work today because we really didn’t want to let this one go," Fuglsang said.

2. Ion Izagirre Insausti (Spa) Astana Pro Team, at 7s
