Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has hailed French Ligue 1 team Lille and their Ivorian forward Nicolas Pepe.
‘The Special One’ was a guest of Lille sports director Luis Campos for the team’s 0-0 draw with Montpellier in the French top flight this past weekend.
Despite the game ending goalless, Mourinho was impressed by Lille’s display and singled out their Ivorian for particular praise.
"Lille, we can say that it is the team feeling of the championship. There were a lot of problems last season and now they are in second position to look to play the Champions League,” said Mourinho after the match.
"It's incredible. There are very good young players. Nicolas Pepe is strong."
Lille have put together a six-match unbeaten run in Ligue 1 to move into second place behind runaway leaders Paris Saint-Germain.
Pepe has been their key player through the campaign thus far, scoring 16 goals from 25 league appearances.
The French-born 23-year-old has also played for Angers and Orleans in his senior club career.
Lille will return to Ligue 1 action and look to try and further secure second place on the log when they play away to Strasbourg on Friday night.
