Mali Under-20 international Sekou Koita says he is following in the footsteps of Senegalese forward Sadio Mane and Naby Keita of Guinea to fulfill his dreams of becoming a global icon.
The 19-year old midfielder played an important role in helping Mali qualify for the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup and 2019 CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final.
Koita is on the books of the Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg where Mane and Keita cut their teeth to stardom.
“At the moment everything is going well and I think I am following in the footsteps of my brothers’ Sadio Mane or Naby Keïta who played for Salzburg,” Koita told CAFOnline.com.
Senegalese forward Mane featured for Salzburg between 2012 and 2014, while his Liverpool FC team-mate Guinea international Keita played for the Austrian giants between 2014 and 2016.
“Things are not going so badly in my club where I played for a year with the reserve team and I played regularly," he added.
"Since the last transfer window, I’m on a six-month loan deal at FC Liefering.”
Koita and his Mali team-mates will take on Senegal in the U20 AFCON final in Niger on Sunday.
