Feyenoord manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst felt his side should have been more ruthless in front of goal despite a 4-0 win over De Graafschap in the Eredivisie this past weekend.
The Rotterdam club secured victory thanks to goals from Tonny Vilhena, Calvin Verdonk, Jerry St Juste and Jens Toornstra, with the result allowing them to make up ground on the top two.
Leaders PSV were held 2-2 at Utrecht on Sunday night, while Ajax slumped to a 1-0 loss away to Heracles on Saturday.
“I’m more satisfied with the second half than the first,” said van Bronckhorst in the wake of the match.
“Today we needed the attacking impetus of our backs. So it’s great that they scored.”
Although he didn’t net during the match, Cuco Martina was complimented by his coach.
“Cuco did well,’ said the Feyenoord boss in regards to the debutant, who looked solid in the heart of defence.
“It’s good to get a clean sheet again; we haven’t managed that for a while. All told, we can feel good about this [match].”
Feyenoord will resume Eredivisie action with a march away to Groningen this coming weekend, before taking on PSV in a heavyweight bout on February 24.
The latter match at the Philips Stadium will be live on Fox Sports 1 from 15h20 CAT.
