LA Galaxy have bolstered their defence ahead of the 2019 Major Soccer League (MLS) season with the signing of Diego Polenta.
The Uruguayan centre-back joins the club as a free agent, having last played for Club Nacional in Uruguay's first division. He made 136 appearances in all competitions for the Montevideo giants.
Polenta, 28, also previously donned the colours of Italian club sides Genoa and Bari.
“Diego is a strong and gifted defender in his prime that we believe can become a top defender in Major League Soccer,” Galaxy General Manager Dennis te Kloese said in a statement.
“He has experience playing at a very high level in Uruguay and he will contribute to an area of need in our defense. We are excited to add him to our roster and look forward to integrating him into our team as we prepare for the upcoming season.”
The Galaxy are desperate to sure up their defence having conceded 64 goals in 2018, on their way to missing the playoffs.
