Manchester City full-back Danilo has revealed that Liverpool’s slip-up has given them added confidence in the Premier League title race.
Liverpool drew 1-1 away to West Ham United on Monday night, opening the door for City to pile the pressure on Jurgen Klopp’s men.
In fact, a win for the Citizens away to an out-of-form Everton in a rearranged match tonight will see Pep Guardiola’s defending champions draw level with Liverpool on 62 points (and head the standings on goal difference).
Liverpool have won just two of their last five Premier League games, while Pep Guardiola's side have only lost once in all competitions since Boxing Day - a 2-1 reverse away to Newcastle United last Tuesday.
While the Reds do still hold an advantage for now (they’ll have a game in hand after tonight), Danilo revealed City’s ability to cut the gap from seven to three points over recent weeks has spurred them on.
"It was good for us and everyone in the dressing room knows that,” Danilo told Sky Sports of Liverpool’s draw.
“But if we don't do our job it will not be enough. So, we are a bit happy but knowing we have to do a bigger job. You have to play your game and play for another result.
“Sometimes you play before or after [your title opponents] and you have to try and put in the same performance every game. If you stay calm and keep focused then you can win the title.”
Everton will host City at Goodison Park, with the match kicking off at 21h45 CAT tonight.
