PSV Eindhoven manager Mark van Bommel has revealed that he has been in contact with free agent Ibrahim Afellay – but not in regards to a transfer just yet.
Affelay, 32, is a free agent and can be signed outside of a transfer window after his contract with EFL Championship club Stoke City was terminated last month.
Van Bommel, speaking ahead of PSV’s Eredivisie clash against Fortuna Sittard – which will be live on Fox Sports 1 at 15h20 later today – confirmed he has had contact with the former Dutch international.
“Ibi is a child of the club, but we did not talk about him as an asset,” said the boss of the Eredivisie leaders.
“The news that he has terminated his contract has been given to everyone. Whether he is a PSV player, I have not thought about it yet, but Ibi is a fantastic player, who started here, has had successes, went to Barcelona and unfortunately had to deal with injuries, now he is almost fit again.
“I do have contact with him, but that is not because we are talking about it now, but we do have contact more often.”
Afellay started his career with PSV Eindhoven and made 217 appearances for the club before departing for Barcelona in 2011.
He has since had spells with Olympiakos and Schalke before moving to Stoke City in 2015.
