Paris Saint-Germain and Brazil forward Neymar will miss 10 weeks of action due to a foot injury, as confirmed by his French club.
PSG confirmed the prognosis on Wednesday, with the Brazilian suffering the knock to his right in a 2-0 win over Strasbourg in the French Cup on January 23.
Neymar’s recovery timeline means he will miss both of PSG’s UEFA Champions League last 16 matches against Manchester United on February 12 and March 6, as well as several Ligue 1 matches in between.
"After detailed analysis by the specialists, a consensus was reached of a conservative treatment of Neymar Jr.'s injury to the fifth right metatarsal,” PSG stated in a news release.
"Informed of this recommendation, Paris Saint-Germain's Brazilian international striker agreed with this protocol. As a result, Neymar Jr. is expected to return to the field within ten weeks.
"Paris Saint-Germain sends its strongest support and encouragement to Neymar Jr. to overcome this injury, with the courage and determination that the player has always shown."
The 26-year-old, who has been on PSG’s books since joining for a world-record fee from Barcelona in 2017, will be a major miss for the French champions.
In the 2018/19 season alone, he has scored 20 goals and provided 10 assists from 23 matches across all competitions.
