‘The Rock’ and ‘Tommy Gun’ will renew hostilities this weekend.
Thabiso Mchunu has warned Thomas Oosthuizen that he will come out “guns blazing” when the pair meet in a boxing rematch on Saturday evening at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, South Africa.
The African Boxing Union (ABU) Cruiserweight title belt will be up for grabs in the battle between ‘The Rock’ and ‘Tommy Gun’, with the bout labelled ‘Repeat or Revenge’ and headlining the final Golden Gloves tournament of 2018.
It has been confirmed that the winner of the match will also claim the vacant South African title in the weight division.
Oosthuizen defeated Mchunu when the two ‘Southpaws’ clashed back in September, with the 30-year-old claiming the ABU belt to mark a sweet redemption following several troubled years in which he has spent time behind bars for various offences.
However, the outcome of their first fight was a debatable one, and promoter Rodney Berman has capitalised on the controversy by organising a quick rematch.
"I am coming with guns blazing. I expect him to run even more this time but he will not be able to hide,” said Mchunu at a press conference earlier this week.
“I intend to punish him severely. I beat him in our first fight but the judges gave him the result."
Oosthuizen fired back: "My name is Tommy Gun. I don't shoot blanks. Thabiso knows I come to fight and just to fight."
Berman added: "This will be another great night for South African boxing on Saturday. The winner could challenge reigning IBO champion Kevin Lerena next year."
