Ghanaian club Asante Kotoko have received a walkover to the first round of the 2018/19 CAF Confederation Cup.
This follows a decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to cancel the preliminary round tie involving Kotoko after the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) failed to submit a representative before the deadline.
In a tweet this past weekend, CAF said: "Matches #37&38 are cancelled because the deadline for FECAFOOT Office [Cameroun Football Federation] to confirm the engagement of second rep. For Total CAF Confederation Cup has elapsed. Asante Kotoko is therefore qualified to the 1/16th round."
Kotoko were scheduled to meet their proposed opponents from Cameroon the first leg of the preliminary round at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Wednesday, and had been camping in the Ashanti Region in preparation.
Kotoko are the only Ghanaian team participating in the CAF Inter-club competitions for 2018/19. Their advancement means they will face either Kenya’s Kariobangi Sharks or Djibouti’s Arta/Solar7 in the first round, with the matches scheduled for December 14-16 and 21-23.
