Etoile Sportive du Sahel showed their quality when they defeated Mbabane Swallows 3-0 in a CAF Champions League, Group D match on Tuesday afternoon.
The third Group D match was staged at Mavuso Sports Centre in Swaziland where the North Africans walked away with the full three points.
In the wake of the win, Etoile consolidated the spot at the top of the group with seven points from three games.
Despite a slow start between the two sides in search of an early goal, none of them tested goalkeepers Sandanzwe Mathabela and Achraf Krir in the first 10 minutes.
However, it was the visitors who broke the deadlock four minutes later through Aouadhi who received an assist from Hannachi, 1-0.
The Swazis tried to level the scores in the opening half, but lacked composure upfront as they could not find the right ball in the final third.
Just after the half-hour mark, Hannachi turned from a provider into a scorer after converting Ghazi Abderrazzak’s assist in the 32nd minute, 2-0.
Despite their improved search for a goal, the Birds went to the tunnel still trailing the visitors by two goals.
Fresh from the half time break, the North Africans continued to control the proceedings.
Coach Thabo Vilakati’s defence could not contain Etoile and they conceded a third goal when substitute Chermiti made it 3-0 from Wajdi Kechrida’s supply in the 71st minute, 3-0.
The North African side remained solid at the back and bagged their second win in the group as they remain at the top with seven points from three games.
Resulting from the defeat, the Birds now occupy the second place with four points from three matches.
Meanwhile, the two sides are set to lock horns once again next week Friday, July 27 in their fourth group stage match in Sousse.
